Elden Ring: 60-year-old mom defeats Malenia in 300 tries

By “parental pride” we usually mean that parents are proud of their children, but it also works the other way around. For example, when your own mom just doesn’t give up on the hardest Elden Ring boss, decides to defeat him all by herself and finally manages to do it.

A Reddit user reported this and also shared the clip in which his mother pointed Malenia to her place.

60-year-old mom really wants to conquer Malenia all by herself and manages to do it

the essentials in brief

  • Reddit user proudly reports on his 60-year-old mother, who defeated the most difficult Elden Ring boss Malenia alone
  • The fan shows a clip of the successful attempt
  • The fan’s mother relies on magic and the spirit ashes of Black Knife Tiche, without human co-op helpers
  • The 60-year-old started gaming with Bloodborne of all things and couldn’t do anything with it before that
  • Community praises mother for tactics and persistence over 300 attempts

On Reddit, user mfdoorway says that he visited his mother and witnessed a great moment:

She beat Malenia on her own while I was there, and man, I haven’t seen a 60-year-old this excited in a while.

However, the user doesn’t want to brag that his mother was able to defeat the tough boss opponent extremely quickly, but rather admires her persistence. It took at least 300 attempts before the great success was finally achieved. Many a fan can sing a song about that.

The Reddit user says the community might not care, but he’s so proud that he wants to show a clip of the winning attempt. We always think it’s a nice story when several generations get involved in their hobby together and we don’t want to withhold that from you:

In her successful attempt, the user’s mother relies on magic that allows her to keep her distance from the demigod, which is particularly useful during her devastatingly long Waterfowl Dance attack. She also has the spirit ashes of Black Knife Tiche with her as support, but no human co-op helpers.

It’s a shame that we don’t see the mother herself, especially at the end when she emerges victorious from the fight. We’ll have to make do with looking at her character’s “pretty” Albinauric mask face.

The fan reveals even more about the mother’s passion for Souls

The fact that the 60-year-old is only supported by a ghost, not by mfdoorway itself, is by no means because the fan didn’t want to help her. The user reveals:

She could have summoned me at any time. I think there’s a little Souls masochist in her ;-).

It’s also exciting to see which game the gamer’s mother started playing with. That was Bloodborne of all things, so not exactly what we think of as a beginner-friendly title.

I tried to introduce her to gaming for years, but she never got into it until Bloodborne. But this was a big milestone for her. She was hyped.

Other users are happy for her in the comments. For example, one person notes, “I love the tactics she chooses and her tenacity. Congratulations to her for defeating the toughest boss in Elden Ring.” Another fan admits:

I wish I had your mom’s skills because Malenia still kicks my ass. Well done!

Malenia is considered the hardest Elden Ring boss and one of the toughest bosses in Souls history. It has two phases, always heals when it hits players and has attacks that are difficult to avoid. The Waterfowl Dance is one of them and is particularly difficult to dodge if we are too close to it.

Depending on the build or personal taste, some fans also report that they found other bosses much more difficult.

Do your parents gamble too? What was your best family gaming moment together? Have you ever been able to celebrate such a success together?
